Being a male writer, it is not often easy to write female characters that are truly genuine, and writing one that is strong, proactive and speaks her heart and her mind can certainly be a challenge. But Bracken MacLeod<\/strong> seems to fully comprehend how to give his two<\/em> lead females unique and genuine voices in his debut novel, Mountain Home<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Lynnea Lowry works as a waitress at an isolated roadside restaurant called Your Mountain Home Kitchen<\/em>. When retired combat veteran Joanie Myer, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, stages an assault on the diner, Lyn\u2019s world is turned upside down. Surviving the assailant\u2019s bullets is only the beginning of her nightmare. Navigating hostilities, she establishes herself as the disputed leader of a diverse group of people that are at odds with the situation and each other. Who – if anyone \u2013 will survive?<\/p>\n

This is a tight, tense and well-paced thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This is a book that you won\u2019t want to put down, and when you do you can\u2019t wait to pick it back up. I highly recommend you do yourself a good turn and read all of Mountain Home<\/strong><\/em> in one sitting.
