“THE LAST STOP”<\/strong> is a bizarre and harrowing tale of a train trip gone wrong, taken by four friends as their last hurray before college. They’ll wish they never got off!<\/p>\r\n

Ghosts, Spirits, and Specters: Volume 2<\/em>\u00a0is second volume in HellBound Books Publishing’s popular anthology series is a superlative collection of fifteen spine-chilling, marrow-icing ghost stories that will have you hiding beneath the covers and reaching for the comfort of your nightlight’s glow.<\/p>\r\n

Snippet from my story, “The Last Stop”<\/u>:<\/p>\r\n

Stepping off the train car and onto the platform the two were greeted by a sky that had an eerie sepia glow to it. Weston could only compare it to a scene from the movie Blade Runner 2049<\/em>. He looked down the platform. Tara and Kyle were standing face-to-face. Weston could see Kyle\u2019s expression had a look of urgency and dread, like something awful had happened.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d Weston asked, as he and Kate hastily approached.<\/p>\r\n

Kyle stepped aside to reveal Tara\u2019s right arm with its compound fracture.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cOh, my God!\u201d Kate cried at the sight of the protruding bone. \u201cDoesn\u2019t that hurt?\u201d she asked. Except it didn\u2019t. The bone was jutting out of its flesh but there was no blood or pain associated with the wound. Kyle too had been injured. The front of his shirt had been torn and it revealed a deep slash across his chest. Nevertheless, he too felt no pain nor was there blood loss from the traumatic injury.<\/p>\r\n

Weston pulled his cell phone out from a rear pants pocket and said, \u201cWe need to get you two help.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve already tried that,\u201d Kyle said. \u201cThere\u2019s no reception here.\u201d Kate checked her mobile phone. She too had no reception.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThe station master\u2019s office,\u201d Weston announced. \u201cSomeone inside must have a landline.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cIt\u2019s closed,\u201d Kyle replied, and then added, \u201cThe doors are locked and the lights are off.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cSomeone has to be able to help. There has to be a police or fire station in town,\u201d Weston said.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cMaybe, but this isn\u2019t the River Lake station.\u201d Kyle pointed to the station sign.<\/p>\r\n

Each of them looked at the sign, and none of them saw the same name for the town. For a moment they all disagreed with each other on the station name. No one could understand why each was reading the station marker differently from the other. The disagreement over the signage ended when Tara asked, \u201cDid we get on the wrong train?\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cNot possible,\u201d Weston replied. \u201cThere\u2019s only one Old River Train<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Observing the edge of town was just a couple hundred yards away; they all agreed they had not arrived at River Lake. Wherever they had ended up, it was imperative that Kyle and Tara receive immediate medical attention. Although the trauma each of them had received was not producing blood or pain, it didn\u2019t mean that the wounds were not life threatening. The group headed into town. Kyle and Tara left their bags on the platform.<\/p>\r\n
